Players read and react to offensive reads. Each player has his gap responsibility. Linemen keep the line from getting to the linebackers and in turn the linebackers make the majority of tackles. However, the 20 is still an attacking defense. The defense is designed to bend, not break! We will give up minus two yards to a gain of two yards on the first and second down, which gives the offense 6 to 14 yards to go on third down. The 20 defense is easily adapted to all of today's complex formations and plays, making it easy for players and coaches to be successful.

WHO IS BOB ALTSHULER? Bob Altshuler was named the head football coach at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2007 season. Upon his arrival, Coach Altshuler installed both a new defense and offense then subsequently led the Gaels to a 14-0 season and their first state championship trophy in 24 years. Prior to Bishop Gorman, Bob coached football for 30 years at West Valley High School in Yakima, Washington, where he worked at both the assistant and head coach levels. In each year as a head coach Bob led the Rams into the state playoffs. Prior to becoming head coach in 2000, Bob was the defensive coordinator for Coach Joe Ortolf, who, in 22 seasons compiled a 180-57 record with 17 state playoff births. Five of those seasons included state championship games. West Valley's highly respected program was considered to be one of the premier squads in the state of Washington. Bob has been named Coach of the Year, has coached the All-State Game, and has both spoken at and conducted clinics for coaching staffs. In 2004, Coach Altshuler was selected as the Washington State representative to the NFL Youth Summit in Canton, Ohio. During his college career Bob played linebacker at Eastern Washington University where they ran a pro 4-3 defense. He was a two-time all-conference player and team captain. Bob holds two B.A. degrees and a Masters Degree in Education.
