This "trailer" came to me from my brother-in-law as a basket case, bent, boat
trailer-to-utility trailer conversion with no discernable engineering. However, it
did have a very nice piece of useable plate steel measuring 4.5' x 9' and many feet of
useable 3' channel iron. So my task came to grinding the other trailer apart and
putting it back together is some coherent fashion.

I
wanted to make a trailer that would haul about 6000 lbs on two axles. |
The
plate steel will make hauling sand and rock a breeze. It will also have sides that
are "sand proof." If you look close you can see a 2" receiver hitch
in the back. Could be a handy place to hook a chain, if needed, or a "Hitch
Haul" for added carrying capacity. |
The
tongue is slightly elongated from what you would see on a "normal" trailer
because I wanted to be able to carry 20' items such as beams or pipe with only about 4' of
overhang out the back. |
I
made the trailer comparatively narrow so that it wouldn't create more wind resistance
poking out from behind the tow vehicle. |
The
tongue area is completely enclosed in plate steel. I did this to my car trailer and
found it provide gobs of storage for chains and such. An added benefit is some
enormous structural strength accross the front of the trailer. |
Another
look at the enclosed tongue area. |
